Guest blogger - The Coaching Circus : On a Serious Note

When the wise men who picked Greg Chappell last time to take India on his "Commitment to Excellence" theme start scratching their grey matter again to pick another coach for the Indian Team , I wonder what must be going on in their minds, obviously they are once bitten twice shy because this country of a billion worshipers of the great Cricketing Circus have still not quite recovered from the WC or should I say the Bangladeshi Debacle. Hmm so what do these folks do now, do they pick up a Desi Studd or opt for a Gora really tough, at the end of the day its the players who play not the coach but that doesn't undermine his role, he is like a Father figure he has to lift the Team every time , he has to bridge the Gap between the Seniors and Juniors he has to do a lot more than just work on peoples cricketing skills, bottom line the guy has to be a really good Manager and a brilliant stragiest.I donot want to go into those techinical details but I just want the best guy for India and when I say "I",I am being a voice of the zillion souls who dont want their Demi Gods to be out of the game next time.

Audience is Not more intelligent than speaker?

I came across this interesting article on Chenthil Nathan's Dabbler , It opposes the concept of "Wisdom of crowds",but actually many a times it is found that cumulative wisdom is much better to that of one person. When people get together(I'd say open minded one's) and articulate, something extraordinary usually evolves,Yes,the crowd's can only be wrong at times when there is chaos,in chaotic environment crowd doesn't think rationally,it follows somebody usually making the first move, any move, in all other situations I believe crowds are much more intelligent than speaker, coz people especially in an Open Space environment do think in different ways, the way their paradigms lead n are not leaded by a single person and when people see a thing with many paradigms, they get to know of the most accurate one, in the case of Dabbler I guess the author mistook information to intelligence!

Value proposition II

No,value addition is not necessary for a business to survive and grow! Neah Im just being crazy,In a market, especially in a competitive scenario value proposition is one thing you can't survive without, many a times product centric startegies with just innovation and no or low value proposition has proved catastrophic for businesses.Chan and rene`e say one has to choose a blue ocean strategy to red ocean ones,Go where the profits and growth are and where the competition isn't.The question here is how could a company in a saturated market grow and make profits, offer added value to your customer!

How good is your idea?

Ive seen people, they have ideas n their ideas are so good they dont wanna share em!,they fear somebody would steal em,they fear somebody will copy the idea and implement it.If you don't share your idea, how will you know how good your idea is? and also having an idea and working on it are two different things,so many people have ideas, good ideas, but there are only few who actually work on it,don't fear to share your idea with people, rather i say share it with as many as you can,and you will get to face all these questions, you wouldn't have thought of otherwise and you should know that the value of an idea increases with the extent of its adaptation,al the great revolutions are the result of an idea, and they are great only because they've been adapted so widely. The other thing is if ideas per se were so valuable, they would had their own market!!

Is your organization this good?

Four thousand five hundred semi-literate dabbawalas collect and deliver 175,000 packages within hours. The reported error rate is one in six-million,better than Six-Sigma,how is this possible? How could you create an organisation so powerful? How could you create and run a service with thousand of employees, no technology and a poorly-educated workforce and have better than six sigma quality?

Seth godin says "Simple: the dabbawallas know their customers. If they rotated the people around, it would never work. There's trust, and along with the trust is responsibility. By creating a flat organization and building relationships, the system even survives monsoon season"
hhhmm,Despite few loop holes that keep hindering the growth, there's lot to learn from traditional Indian social organisation.

Fax guy

I had to fax some documents urgently n I went to the 2nd floor of my office where there is a fax machine and a guy sits there to help with photocopying n stuff,I saw him talking to somebody on phone,I told him
"I need to fax these", he murmured something n returned to his phone,I felt disrespect, I looked into his eyes n with a strong voice I said " I need to fax these urgently!",great success, he took the number, dialled it n inserted the document in to the machine n said "press Fax/start once the call is receieved",
what a lousy guy,he isn't patient enough to send it,I thought n he got back to phone. Nobody received the call n I was desperate but then I turned around to the guy n he was weeping talking to somebody on phone,I felt very bad for my behaviour,I don't really know what happened with the guy,I always perceived him to be a rude person coz he was never courteous, still I felt very bad,may be I should have asked If I could help him anyway, may be he was always in problems n that made him behave like that,I donno.

No body was receving the call,I didn't wanted to disturb the fax guy coz now I felt this thing is not all that urgent, atleast not now,I left,With all the helplessness I just pray to God please help him!

Change the world, think different

Think different is an advertising slogan created for apple in late 1990's,actually it responds to the IBM slogan 'think' ,Apple displayed the Think different posters in their first set of retail stores,It's awesome n I wanted you people to read it if you haven't already did.

Here's to the crazy ones.
The misfits.
The rebels.
The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They're not fond of rules
And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can praise them, quote them, disagree with them
disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing that you can't do is ignore them.
Because they change things.
They invent. They imagine. They heal.

They explore. They create. They inspire.
They push the human race forward.
Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art?

Or sit in silence and hear a song that's never been written?

Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
We make tools for these kinds of people.
While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think that they can
change the world, are the ones who do.

Be practical

Be practical! I think I've heard it enough, yes, you should be practical but it shouldnt really stop you from trying new things,Think what would have happened if wright brothers and others thought its not practical to fly in air, what would have happened if Thomas A.Edsion thought its not practical to make light out of electricity in those 10000 failures he faced, great inventions and paradigm shifting breakthroughs didn't happen with people thinking its not practical, but coz people beleived in it n they were persistent enough.
But I would warn you from being insanely complacent, but dream big, beleive in it,try to calculate your risks before hand and never be afraid of trying something new.

Every adversity, every failure, and every heartache, carries with it the Seed of an equivalent or greater Benefit

Guest Blogger - Circles of desperation

How do you feel when you are asked to write some stuff for their blogs, now the question that pops straight of my mind is what the heck is a Blog and whatever the folks who do follow it say i must admit that its just a way to let your crazy imagination fly no matter what others feel, think or say.Something similar is happening Right now I am writing this "Donnot have a clue " what stuff but hope that finally it will make some sense to someone may be atleast me and if that is the case then my writing skills will be in serious doubt and i will not be asked to repeat the favour.Anyways as i am too tired to running in this "Circular Ladder" called the Society as Osho describes it I do feel that its about time i stopped going in Circles to relax and just have a look how much distance I have covered and Seriously I am ammused to check out that its Merely a " 2*PI*r " now what is that even I do not have a clue, donnot even get me started on my Ambitious Displacement Vs Time Curve, so end of the day life has started to suck badly infact am sick and tired off running this rat race to out do one another, where has all the peace gone no clue where have all the Funny moments with all the sitcoms gone God knows , I have started to miss the Home food even more,I just cannot do it any more I just cannot am I making any sense or my time has come and am I just " Knocking on Heavens Doors" who knows someone Mr Bob Dylan. Stagnant water stinks

You already know it does, there is no water flowing in, n none flowing out, dirt keeps accumulating, mosquitoes breed and it starts to stink.Fortunately culture has never been stagnant, any culture, it has been like a river, good and bad gets added to it but at the end people drink the river water n its clean.
Even though you see all these chauvinists trying their best stop changing it,but everything gotta change coz things develop only when they change, yes things change even if they worsen, but think it this way, you can be alive only if fresh blood replaces the old one,the same way the culture, the society can be alive n healthy only when fresh blood replaces the old one.

Accepting your mistakes

One thing I've noticed again is how one would become so stubborn when one wont accept his/her mistakes, when you dont accept your mistakes your paradigms become completely biased with your coverup, quite often paradigms turn into convictions and you never want to accept that your paradigm is wrong, you grow into a chauvinist.

Seriously,If you want to grow as a human being or in your career, dont be afraid to accept your mistakes,on the other hand accept your mistakes even before somebody else pin points it,it gives you leverage, it makes you more genuine, your paradigms grow into more accurate ones and at the end you grow as a human being.

Inertia of Rest

Isaac Newton's First law of motion states Every body perseveres in its state of being at rest or of moving uniformly straight ahead, except insofar as it is compelled to change its state by forces impressed.

You get an idea, you plan things etc, and you gotta implement it, and here's where the inertia of rest comes in to play, the moment you start doing something you feel a great force of inertia acting on you, Just one hurdle and you already feel like may be shouldn't do this in the first place or what if I fail in someway, n if you overcome it then you get to the stage where you find it difficult to get things in place, usually these are things I guess, which make people lazy, make people go back to the state of "rest",that's why you love being at rest, you don't have to resist the force. Now it all comes to the choices one make, choice to resist the incredible power of Inertia will ultimately materialize the thing and choice to succumb to the force will return you to your state of rest.I guess this is where a winner differs from a looser, you know everybody wants to achieve this or that but when going gets tough, only tough get going,n you are what you believe you are,If you already dont know let me tell you that you are already strong, you already have all that power to resist the inertia all that you need to do is just beleive and go on.

My Blogging goals

A friend of mine asked me if money is what thats making me blog,I felt a need like i should answer this question to you all. There are things people do for money and there are things they dont expect money for, blogging is one thing I guess I would never expect money for,Coz it's a tool I'm using to affirm things to myself,In this effort if I'm helping people change their paradigms to better I'm delighted.
